The problem happens when many companies mix food groups, or at least try to mask healthy foods in unhealthy ways. Take, for example, a croissant. Typically, a croissant is filled with sugars (excessively so) and covered in jelly, cream, or chocolate. What was a barely acceptable healthy option is just a sugar ball that looks like a bagel.

A healthy and balanced diet incorporates at least three servings of the main core food groups in bread, vegetables, fruit, and dairy. Meat and poultry have been somewhat minimized in importance in the food organization, especially as the market has explored alternative options for protein in nuts and beans. The Place of Organic Food

The definition of a healthy balanced diet has not fundamentally changed, but it has gone through a few evolutions. The latest may be the rise of organic farming and foods. An individual could have the same bad diet as before, such as eating a lot of carbohydrates, saturated fats, etc. But, what if they switched all their regular items of cheeseburgers and frozen dinners with organic cheeseburgers and frozen dinners? Is the diet improved?

The argument is fascinating because the bad diet is not any more balanced, but it is a little more healthy. Many may argue that it is a step in the right direction, but it is a focus on the wrong thing. The best approach would be to eat largely organic and eat a mostly balanced diet. Organic may fulfill the need for healthier food, but it does not necessarily solve the balanced part of it.
